"Love and Rockets guitarist Daniel Ash had quietly released one of the best collections of music in his career. Stylistically, Ash's four-song EP It's a Burn Out resembles the heavier moments of Love and Rockets, but is certainly equal to anything that the group ever put out."

-- Jef With One F in Gothtopia, Inquiring Minds

The Houston Press takes a look at the newly released EP of Daniel Ash, covering everything from its stylistic impressions to the online marketing, and Ash's future plans as a musician.

You can read the full story here, but we'll leave you with the overall impression from Jef With One F:

"The end product is as sweet as sex in a hammock, and the perfect way to end what is really four songs of pure Goth perfection."

Amazon user reviews Nelo's "Two Years Ago" - check it out!

4 out of 5 stars
SOMETIMES A LITTLE BIT GOES A LONG WAY...TERRIFIC EP

"Sometimes a band tries to fill a 40-60 minute CD before they get their music released. In the case of NELO, they chose the motto "its not the quantity but the quality that counts". (This may not be their official motto but it could be.)

I heard one track of this album (the one titled "Love Solution") on a promo sampler and was hooked and wanted to hear more. Upon getting the full CD (its an E.P with 5 tracks - plus a "hidden" sixth (instrumental) bonus) I was hooked for nearly 23 minutes with the music and the production values.

The title track is radio ready and should be on every college radio playlist. The song "2 Years Ago" is another standout. The lead singer on all the tracks - Reid Umstattd - has a great rock group voice with Matt Ragland providing backing vocals. Ragland wrote all the songs here and, if there is a weakness, its in the lyrics which serve more as part of the melody than standing on their own. I read the lyrics to all of them - they are printed on the album - numerous times and still was unable to get a message. But the "music is the message" here and the lyrics fit beautifully as part of the sound. And you'll be singing along the choruses with the band even on first playing (and probably tapping your feet as well.)

As they say good things often come in small packages. And, in the case of this album, its definitely true."

We apologize for keeping you waiting, but we're ready to finish off our last two days of yummy recipes.

We hope everyone's holidays were awesome and everyone had a blast ringing in the new year!

One last thank you to Kara Zuaro and her book I LIKE FOOD, FOOD TASTES GOOD.

DAY 2
Fish Tacos w/ Avocados
courtesy of RJ Krohn of RJD2

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 fillets of white fish, such as tilapia (about 1 pound total)
salt and pepper
6 taco shells
1 avocado
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
packet of taco seasoning
grated taco cheese
lettuce
salsa
tortilla chips

1. olive oil in a skillet. when hot, throw two fillets of white fish, tilapia preferably, in the pan. salt and pepper 'em. after about two or three minutes, flip the fillets and cook the other side for another two minutes and take off the heat.

2. put taco shells on a cookie sheet and into an oven set to 250° F or so, and keep checking on them to avoid burnt shells.

3. take an avocado - cut in half, peel/de-seed, and scoop innards into a small bowl. listen, cuz you gotta get this right. a dash of salt, a good dash of pepper, but a TINY amount of lemon juice. a teaspoon. easy to f*** up with too much lemon juice. mash together, perfect guacamole.

4. when fish is done, add taco seasoning from packet. chop it all up so it looks like puke.

5. heat shells in oven 5 min, take out, put cheese in, heat again for 3 min.

6. chop up some lettuce real fine and put some salsa in a bowl.

7. shovel the fish into the shells, top with lettuce, and serve with guacamole and chips. voilá!

DAY 1
Dirty Snowflake
courtesy of Steven Scott from IRVING
start with a full glass of ice. then add:

1 part vodka (skye or absolut)
1 part kahlúa (or other coffee liquor, but kahlúa is best)
1/2 part peppermint schnapps

fill remainder with half and half or whole milk or combination.
mix well (shaken in martini shaker is best...)
garnish with fresh ground cinnamon and fresh ground nutmeg (leave on top or mix it in a little...it's best to provide scent, not necessarily flavor)
that's it!! light a fire and drink a few.

WE HOPE YOU'VE ENJOYED THE RECIPES!
